16 Universities Set to Face Off in 2025 Supreme Court Moot Competition

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Supreme Court of Kenya has announced that 16 universities will take part in this year’s Annual Supreme Court Moot Court Competition, scheduled to run from November 12 to 14, 2025, at the Supreme Court Building in Nairobi.

The three-day event, now a flagship fixture in Kenya’s legal education calendar, will see law students simulate Supreme Court proceedings, testing their advocacy, legal reasoning, and understanding of constitutional jurisprudence.

According to the Court’s statement, the competition will bring together teams from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), University of Nairobi, Mount Kenya University, Riara University, Moi University, Maseno University, Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Chuka University, Kenyatta University, University of Embu, Strathmore University, Egerton University, UMMA University, Kabarak University, Daystar University, and Africa Nazarene University.

Organized annually by the Judiciary through the Office of the Chief Justice, the competition provides a platform for students to engage with real-world legal challenges and to understand how constitutional and appellate litigation unfolds at Kenya’s apex court.

Past editions of the moot have featured judges of the Supreme Court presiding over simulated hearings, providing participants with invaluable exposure to the Court’s procedural rigor and interpretive standards.

The initiative aligns with the Judiciary’s broader goal of strengthening legal education and promoting judicial mentorship under the Judiciary Academy of Kenya.

It also supports the Judiciary’s constitutional mandate to promote public understanding of the law and access to justice.

Only one university will emerge victorious at the end of the competition, earning national recognition and opportunities for mentorship and professional growth within Kenya’s legal community.
