NAIROBI, Kenya – Ashlee Jenae, whose real name is Ashly Robinson, was a 31-year-old U.S.-based lifestyle influencer with a following of more than 80,000 people who knew her for her curated posts on travel, self-growth, and positivity.
In early April 2026, she traveled to Zanzibar, Tanzania, for what her family described as a deeply meaningful occasion.
In a family statement, they explained that Ashlee was “celebrating her 31st birthday on April 5 with a dream stay at a luxury villa at Zuri Zanzibar with her fiancé Joe McCann.”
For her online audience, the trip appeared nothing short of perfect.
She documented safari moments, shared clips of her engagement, and posted what would become her final Instagram update, an image of her feeding a giraffe beneath rose petals spelling out birthday wishes.

But behind the curated imagery, the narrative took a tragic turn.
According to reports from her family, Robinson was found unconscious in their villa and later pronounced dead at a local medical facility.
“Ashly was found unconscious in her villa and was rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later.”
The shock of her sudden death has since collided with conflicting accounts of what happened in her final hours.
While her fiancé has suggested suicide, this claim remains unverified by independent authorities and has been met with skepticism from those closest to her.
As the investigation continues in Zanzibar, emotions within her inner circle have intensified.
Friends and family describe a situation clouded by uncertainty, with one family statement noting that the trip “should have been one of the happiest trips of her life,” but instead turned into their “worst nightmare.”
In the absence of official clarity, attention has increasingly shifted to the digital footprint left behind messages, deleted posts, and social media activity that some associates have described as unusual.
For now, authorities in Tanzania continue to examine the circumstances surrounding her death, while her family urges patience as they seek answers far from home.
