BARINGO, Kenya, July 10 —A school bus carrying 56 learners and four teachers was involved in a road traffic accident along the Kabarnet–Marigat Road in Baringo County on Friday evening, leaving all 60 occupants injured.

The Kenya Red Cross said it is supporting emergency response efforts following the crash, with all those affected evacuated to Baringo County Referral Hospital for treatment.

The organisation added that the victims are receiving both medical care and psychosocial first aid.

Emergency Response Launched

In a statement issued on Friday evening, the Kenya Red Cross said emergency teams responded to the scene shortly after the accident was reported.

“Kenya Red Cross is supporting response efforts following a road traffic incident involving a school bus carrying 56 learners and four teachers along the Kabarnet–Marigat Road this evening,” the humanitarian organisation said.

Rescue teams worked to evacuate all the learners and teachers from the scene before transferring them to hospital.

Learners and Teachers Receive Treatment

According to the Kenya Red Cross, all 60 occupants of the bus were taken to Baringo County Referral Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

In addition to emergency medical care, the organisation said psychosocial first aid is being provided to support the learners and teachers following the traumatic incident.

“The affected learners and teachers were evacuated to Baringo County Referral Hospital, where they are receiving medical care and psychosocial first aid,” the organisation added.

Authorities had not provided a breakdown of the injuries or disclosed the condition of those affected by the time of publication.

Cause of Crash Yet to Be Established

The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately clear.

Authorities have yet to disclose what caused the school bus to veer off or collide, and no official statement had been issued regarding possible contributing factors.

Investigations are expected to establish the cause of the accident.
