NAIROBI, Kenya — The Court of Appeal has announced that its services continued uninterrupted across the country on Wednesday, with all scheduled benches proceeding with hearings despite the Law Society of Kenya’s (LSK) one-day nationwide boycott of court proceedings.
In an update released on Wednesday, the Court of Appeal said all counsel scheduled to appear before the nine appellate benches attended court, enabling the hearings to proceed as planned.
According to the court, benches sat in Eldoret, Kisii, Busia, Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri, Meru, and Nairobi, where two separate benches conducted proceedings.
A total of 54 appeals and applications were heard during the day’s sittings.
The update comes after the LSK, led by President Charles Kanjama, announced a nationwide boycott of court hearings to protest what it described as persistent administrative failures and accountability concerns within the Judiciary.
Under the boycott, advocates were directed to stay away from substantive court hearings while continuing to handle urgent matters, including filing court documents, mentions and applications involving interim orders.
Despite the industrial action, the Judiciary had earlier assured the public that courts across the country would remain open and continue hearing and determining matters as scheduled.
The Court of Appeal’s latest update indicates that proceedings at the appellate level continued without disruption, with advocates appearing before all nine benches across the country.
