PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil — A morning run in Brazil turned into an unforgettable moment for one athletics fan after she unexpectedly met marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge, who stopped to embrace her and sign her jacket.

The emotional encounter occurred as both were jogging along the same street in opposite directions before the woman recognised the Kenyan distance-running icon.

Unable to contain her excitement, she pulled out her phone and began recording as Kipchoge approached.

Instead of simply greeting her and continuing his run, the two-time Olympic marathon champion walked over and warmly embraced the visibly emotional supporter.

The gesture left the fan in tears.

Emotional Moment Captured on Video

In a video circulating online, the woman, overcome with emotion, handed Kipchoge a white jacket and a pen, softly saying, “Please… please,” as she asked for his autograph.

Kipchoge calmly signed the jacket while the fan repeatedly whispered, “Thank you, Lord.”

“I love you so much. I love you so much,” she told the Kenyan star through tears.

The pair shared another hug before resuming their morning runs.

The fan was dressed in green athletic leggings, a black long-sleeved sports top and a white jacket, while Kipchoge wore a black running outfit, a navy blue jacket and black running shoes.

In Brazil for Porto Alegre Marathon

The encounter comes as Kipchoge is in Brazil ahead of the NB42K Porto Alegre Marathon, where he is expected to participate as part of his global running engagements.

The event is one stop on his seven-continent marathon tour, an initiative aimed at inspiring runners around the world and promoting distance running beyond elite competition.

A Legacy Beyond Competition

Although Kipchoge is celebrated for his achievements on the road, moments like the one in Brazil continue to highlight the admiration he commands from fans worldwide.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest marathon runners in history, Kipchoge is a two-time Olympic marathon champion and has won multiple World Marathon Majors during a career spanning more than two decades.

He also made history in 2019 by becoming the first person to run a marathon in under two hours during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge, completing the distance in 1:59:40 under controlled conditions. While the performance was not eligible as an official world record because it did not meet standard competition rules, it remains one of the most significant milestones in distance running.

Kipchoge continues to inspire athletes globally through his philosophy, “No Human Is Limited,” combining sporting excellence with humility and a commitment to growing the sport.
