Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi Pledges Full Power Connectivity for Migori County

Date:

MIGORI, Kenya — Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Opiyo Wandayi, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving nationwide electricity coverage, highlighting several ongoing projects aimed at increasing the country’s power generation capacity.

Speaking during a tree planting exercise in Migori County, Wandayi revealed that KSh 1.6 billion has been allocated to enhance power connectivity within the county.

Addressing concerns raised by local leaders, Wandayi assured residents that efforts are underway to improve electricity access, especially in areas that have long been underserved.

He cited the upgrade of the Gogo power plant, which is being expanded from 2 megawatts to 8 megawatts at a cost of KSh 5 billion, as a key initiative in addressing power shortages.

Uriri Member of Parliament, Mark Nyamitta, had earlier raised concerns about the widespread lack of electricity in his constituency.

Several other leaders echoed his sentiments, with many areas of Migori County still lacking reliable power supply.

In response, Wandayi emphasized that these challenges would be addressed through the government’s ongoing and planned projects.

He called on the public to remain patient as the government works to expand electricity access and enhance the country’s energy infrastructure.

The energy cabinet secretary also took the opportunity to praise President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga for their role in uniting the nation.

Local leaders, including Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Senator Eddy Oketch, and Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Mohamed, all expressed their support for the broad-based government, acknowledging its role in driving development in the region.

Wandayi urged leaders in the Nyanza region to fully support the government’s initiatives, asserting that collective effort and cooperation would be key to realizing the country’s long-term development goals.
