Ex-Harambee Stars Player Collins Okoth “Gattuso” in Court for Murder Trial

Date:

Nairobi, Kenya – The High Court in Nairobi will today commence the trial of former Harambee Stars midfielder Collins “Gattuso” Okoth and his co-accused, Silvia Aoko, who are charged with the murder of a three-year-old girl in Lucky Summer, Ruaraka Sub-county.

The gruesome incident allegedly occurred in April 2024, and the duo were arraigned earlier this month. They pleaded not guilty.

In a bail decision delivered by Justice Alexander Muteti, both were released on a Sh 1 million bond each, with one surety of the same amount.

Conditions attached include: not entering Lucky Summer, not interfering with witnesses, surrendering passports if any, and providing details of fixed abode plus obtaining a letter from their local area chief.

Prosecutors had opposed bail, arguing that the defendants could intimidate witnesses and were a flight risk due to lack of fixed residence, among other reasons. The court, however, held that the State did not provide enough evidence to deny the bond.

Today’s hearing, set to begin at the High Court, will mark the opening of full trial proceedings.
