KISII, Kenya- Detectives have positively identified four suspects linked to a violent carjacking and gang rape incident in Kisii County, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the DCI said the suspects were earlier arrested while in possession of a homemade firearm and several crude weapons.
The four suspects — Peter Kuria, Moses Kariuki, Robert Omosa, and Evans Makori — were allegedly part of a six-member gang involved in the attack.
According to investigators, the incident began along Mocheche Avenue, where a young couple was seated inside a vehicle before they were ambushed by armed men.
Police said the gang forcibly took control of the vehicle before driving the victims to a thicket in the Bobaracho area, where they robbed them of valuables and Sh34,000 in cash.
The attackers allegedly blindfolded the victims and locked them inside the vehicle’s boot before driving around for several hours.
Investigators said the male victim was later abandoned in the Mabundu area in Nyamira County while the gang drove away with the woman.
The DCI stated that the woman was subsequently gang-raped before being abandoned by the suspects.
“The suspects’ run of luck ended at Kisii Police Station during an identification parade, where the victim positively identified her tormentors,” the agency said.
The four suspects are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court, while detectives continue pursuing two other suspects believed to have escaped arrest.
The DCI urged members of the public to share information that could help investigators track down the remaining suspects through its anonymous reporting channels.
