
NAIROBI, Kenya- The government has announced a raft of appointments and reappointments to key boards and councils in the education, health and irrigation sectors, as Cabinet Secretaries Julius Migos Ogamba, Aden Duale and Eric Mugaa reorganise leadership in critical public institutions.
The appointments, contained in a Gazette Notice dated July 17, affect institutions responsible for technical education, curriculum development, professional regulation in the health sector and irrigation management.
Ogamba reappoints TVET and KICD officials
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba reappointed Prof. Ahmed Kibet Ferej as the non-executive chairperson of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council for a further three-year term effective July 17, 2026.
The reappointments to the council also include Dr. Mercy Wanjiru Mwaniki, Loice Chelagat Kutoh Yator, Rachel N. Kimani, Florence Atieno Suji, Architect Wambua Nyamai and Dr. Joseph Kaberia Arimba.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 46(1) of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Act… the following persons are appointed for a period of three years,” the Gazette Notice states.
At the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Prof. Andrew Rasugu Otachi Riechi and Kibiwott Munge were reappointed to the Governing Council for another three-year term, while Margaret Njaggah was appointed as a new council member.
The appointments come as the National Treasury reported significant government investment in the education sector.
According to Treasury figures, recurrent expenditure allocations include Sh112.8 billion for Basic Education, Sh100.5 billion for Higher Education and Research, Sh21.5 billion for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and Sh409.5 billion for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The State Department for Science, Innovation and Research received Sh853.37 million in recurrent funding.
Development allocations include Sh13.8 billion for Basic Education, Sh4.8 billion for Higher Education and Research, Sh2.3 billion for TVET programmes and approximately Sh394.5 million for TSC development projects.
Health sector councils reconstituted
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed four members to the Council of the Kenya Nutritionists and Dietitians Institute.
The new members are Judith Adhiambo Kobe, Dr. Patriciah Mbogoh, Sylvester Ndori and Abdullahi Siyad Adan, who will each serve three-year terms.
Duale also reconstituted the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council, appointing Ahmed Salat Fankey as the non-executive chairperson.
The council members include Emily Kirui, Abubakar Jirow, Michael Gillo, Joseph Kilel, James Odera, Halima Gababa, Catherine Kimani, Omar Sigomba, Gertrude Rapongo and Lukas Lokwae Edete.
In addition, Dr. Charles Jakait Sangalo was appointed as a member of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council for a three-year term.
Irrigation Authority board strengthened
In the water sector, Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa reappointed Mary Kanana Mwiti and Ubah Kahiye as members of the National Irrigation Authority Board of Directors for another three years beginning July 20, 2026.
He also appointed Gilbert Bwire Wangalwa as a new member of the board for the same period.
