‘I Nearly Got Stabbed’: Oga Obinna Details Chaotic Aftermath of Vurugu 2

Media personality and Vurugu 2 promoter Oga Obinna has revealed that he narrowly escaped a knife attack after the Vurugu 2 boxing event, alleging that a group of about 15 goons chased him and demanded money moments after the night’s fights had concluded.

Speaking on The Kisiangani Podcast, Obinna described a tense aftermath that unfolded outside the Sarit Centre in Nairobi, where he says the celebration quickly descended into chaos following an evening already marked by political tension inside the venue.

According to Obinna, the trouble began after organizers had announced the winners and guests started leaving the venue.

As he headed toward the parking lot with his bodyguard, Munez, he claims they were confronted by a large group of men who demanded cash from the event organizers.

“I’ve always believed dialogue is the first option… Then one guy pulled out a knife and told me, ‘Utoe doh, bro.’ I have never forgotten that guy’s face.”

He said he initially attempted to calm the situation through dialogue, explaining that he often speaks directly with rowdy groups at public events in an effort to prevent violence.

According to the comedian, that strategy failed on this occasion.

“I’ve always believed dialogue is the first option… Then one guy pulled out a knife and told me, ‘Utoe doh, bro.’ I have never forgotten that guy’s face.”

Obinna said he managed to escape without being injured, although he described the encounter as one of the most frightening experiences of his career.

Beyond the alleged knife scare, Obinna claimed the confrontation was fueled by rumours surrounding the event’s financing.

According to him, some of the individuals who disrupted the event believed Vurugu 2 had received financial backing from the government and demanded a share of what they believed was state money.

He alleged that the group repeatedly insisted the organizers hand over cash, claiming they were entitled to part of the proceeds.

The disorder outside the venue followed tense scenes inside the boxing arena earlier in the evening.

Reflecting on the night’s events, Obinna suggested that not everyone involved in the chaos had acted independently.

While acknowledging that some individuals appeared to be opportunistic criminals seeking money, he also alleged that others had deliberately attended the event to cause disruption.

“Even at the door, you find there are some goons who came there intentionally, and there are some powerful people who send goons to come and haribu it. There’s some goons watu walijileta tu pia kuharibu.”
