U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance.
The couple announced that Alec was born on the morning of Sunday, July 19, becoming the first child born to a sitting U.S. vice president in more than 150 years.
The last time a vice president welcomed a child while serving in office was in 1870, when Vice President Schuyler Colfax and his wife, Ellen Colfax, celebrated the birth of their daughter.
JD and Usha Vance announced their son’s birth in a heartfelt statement shared on X.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
The couple also took the opportunity to thank the medical professionals who cared for Usha during her pregnancy and delivery.
“We are incredibly grateful to the outstanding doctors, nurses and staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the White House Medical Unit and everyone who helped ensure a safe delivery.”
The announcement was met with congratulatory messages from political leaders, supporters and members of the public, many of whom celebrated both the healthy arrival of the baby and the unique place the birth occupies in American history.

The couple first revealed they were expecting another child in January 2026, sharing their excitement about expanding their family while balancing public service.

The pair met while studying at Yale Law School and married in 2014.
Usha, a respected attorney and former Supreme Court law clerk, has remained one of the vice president’s closest advisers while maintaining a relatively private family life despite the intense spotlight surrounding Washington politics.
Since JD Vance entered public office, the couple has frequently emphasized the importance of keeping their children grounded and shielding them from unnecessary public attention.
Even so, the Vance children have occasionally appeared alongside their parents during major public events, offering brief glimpses into the family’s life beyond politics.
Following the announcement, congratulations flooded social media as Americans from across the political spectrum wished the family well.
