NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyan rapper King Kaka has shown off a new Sh7.8 million investment in Nairobi’s matatu industry, unveiling a heavily customised nganya that was still undergoing work at a fabrication workshop.
The rapper, whose real name is Kennedy Ombima, gave former Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa a tour of the vehicle as technicians worked on its final modifications.
Footage from the workshop shows King Kaka walking Mwendwa through the vehicle, highlighting its extensive interior entertainment system and bespoke exterior work.
The investment adds King Kaka to the growing list of prominent Kenyans putting money into the country’s public transport sector, particularly the highly customised nganya segment.
According to the report on the vehicle, King Kaka has spent Sh7.8 million on the project, turning the matatu into a high-end entertainment-focused vehicle.
The vehicle features six television screens fitted inside the passenger cabin alongside a substantial sound system.
The footage shows specialised bodywork, including custom side mirrors and modified bumpers, while the vehicle was still being worked on at the fabrication facility.
King Kaka’s tour with Mwendwa offered a glimpse into the amount of work that goes into transforming an ordinary matatu into a customised nganya.
The Sh7.8 million figure also puts the project firmly in the high-end section of Nairobi’s matatu customisation market.
Mwendwa features prominently in the footage as King Kaka takes him around the vehicle.
The former FKF president has himself been involved in business outside football since leaving the federation’s presidency with a poultry farm in Makueni.
King Kaka’s investment comes during a period of heightened attention around customised matatu businesses in Nairobi.
President William Ruto’s son George Ruto has also expanded his presence in the sector through the 98 brand, with several highly customised nganyas attracting attention on Nairobi roads.
The 98 operation recently unveiled six additional vehicles undergoing upgrades, with colourful LED lighting forming part of their customised interiors.
Other vehicles associated with the 98 brand have also attracted attention for their elaborate designs and entertainment features.
