Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has celebrated a family milestone after his adopted daughter, Janet Kaindi, exchanged vows with her fiancé, filmmaker and director of photography Elvis Kintu, in a white wedding held at Limuru Gardens on Tuesday, July 14.
The exclusive ceremony came just weeks after the couple’s colourful traditional ruracio (dowry) ceremony at Sonko’s Mua Hills home, where family elders formally united the two families.
Known for his larger-than-life personality, Sonko ensured every detail of the wedding matched the significance of the occasion. From a fleet of luxury vehicles transporting the bridal party to premium décor and custom-made outfits, the former governor spared no expense in creating what many described as a fairytale celebration for his daughter.
Ahead of the wedding, Sonko had already made headlines after announcing there would be no harambee to finance the event. Instead, he revealed that he would personally cater for every expense associated with the wedding.
Although Janet Kaindi is Sonko’s adopted daughter, their bond spans nearly two decades.

Sonko has previously shared that he took Janet into his family about 18 years ago after she lost both her parents. Since then, he and his wife, Primrose Mbuvi, have raised her as one of their own, making her wedding day an emotional milestone for the family.
In the ceremony, Sonko proudly walked Janet down the aisle before later joining his wife on the dance floor to celebrate with the newlyweds. Videos and photographs shared online captured the family embracing, laughing and sharing heartfelt moments as guests cheered them on.
The wedding embraced a timeless white theme, with Limuru Gardens transformed into an elegant venue featuring lavish floral arrangements, sophisticated décor and beautifully styled reception spaces.
Janet stole the spotlight in a custom off-the-shoulder white wedding gown with a flowing veil, while Elvis complemented her look in a classic black tuxedo.
The bridal party also adhered to the all-white aesthetic, creating a cohesive and luxurious atmosphere throughout the celebration.
The ceremony remained largely private, with attendance limited to close family members, relatives and selected friends. Among those present were members of the Sonko family, including his wife Primrose Mbuvi and daughter Sandra Mbuvi, popularly known as Thicky Sandra, who shared glimpses of the celebrations on social media.
Janet’s husband, Elvis Kintu, works as a professional director of photography and filmmaker.
While he largely maintains a low public profile, he has built a career behind the camera, contributing to productions within Kenya’s creative industry.
