Plane Crash Near Juba Kills All 14 on Board

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – A tragic aviation accident has claimed 14 lives after a light aircraft crashed on the outskirts of South Sudan’s capital, Juba.

According to South Sudan’s civil aviation authority, the Cessna 208 Caravan went down while approaching Juba, killing all 13 passengers and the pilot on board.

Preliminary findings suggest the aircraft may have encountered low visibility caused by adverse weather, which could have contributed to the crash.

The aircraft, operated by CityLink Aviation, had been en route from Yei to Juba International Airport when it lost communication mid-flight, raising alarm before the fatal incident.

Officials confirmed that among those onboard were two Kenyan nationals, with the rest identified as South Sudanese citizens.

Emergency response teams have since been dispatched to the crash site, located approximately 20 kilometres outside Juba, to secure the area, assist in recovery efforts, and begin investigations into the cause of the accident.

Footage circulating online from the scene shows the wreckage of the aircraft engulfed in flames, underscoring the severity of the crash as authorities work to piece together the final moments of the flight.
