NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have intensified their crackdown on illicit alcohol in Nairobi County after officers destroyed more than 2,000 litres of illegal brews and dismantled brewing equipment during an operation in Kasarani Sub-County.
The National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Kahawa West Police Station carried out a targeted raid in the Soweto area, where they recovered and destroyed 2,000 litres of Kangara and 90 litres of Chang’aa.
Police also demolished assorted equipment used in the illegal brewing operation to prevent the business from resuming.
According to the NPS, the operation forms part of an ongoing nationwide campaign aimed at dismantling illicit alcohol networks and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illegal brews.
The Service noted that the manufacture and distribution of illicit alcohol not only endangers the health and lives of consumers but also contributes to other forms of criminal activity, including theft, violence and drug-related offences.
“The fight against illicit alcohol is a continuous effort, with every operation denying criminal networks the opportunity to profit and disrupting environments that often fuel other crimes, including theft, violence and drug-related activities,” the NPS said in a statement.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining operations against illegal brews across the country and called on members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities.

Authorities said similar enforcement operations will continue as part of broader efforts to curb the manufacture, distribution and sale of illicit alcohol and enhance public safety across the country.
