Kenyan musician Arrow Bwoy is officially set to step into the boxing ring against Ugandan corporate boxer and socialite Shakib Cham Lutaaya in what is shaping up to be one of East Africa’s most talked-about celebrity fight nights.
The highly anticipated showdown will headline Vurugu 2.0, an entertainment and combat sports event scheduled for June 20, 2026, at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi.
The event, organized by Kenyan media personality and comedian Oga Obinna, promises a mix of celebrity grudge matches, professional boxing bouts, and live musical performances aimed at blending sports and entertainment into one spectacle.
The rivalry between Arrow Bwoy and Shakib Cham has been brewing online for months.
Shakib Cham, who is widely known as the husband of Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan, publicly challenged Kenyan artists to a boxing match through social media.
Arrow Bwoy wasted no time responding. The singer enthusiastically accepted the challenge and quickly turned the exchange into a full-blown online rivalry.
In one of his viral responses, Arrow Bwoy mockingly declared that “mboga imejileta,” a Swahili phrase loosely translating to “the target has delivered itself.”
He also jokingly warned Shakib not to bring Zari Hassan to the fight arena, claiming she might faint while watching her husband get beaten inside the ring.
The banter immediately caught the attention of fans across Kenya and Uganda, with social media users heavily debating who would emerge victorious in the celebrity showdown.
What initially appeared to be playful online trash talk has now officially evolved into one of the headline attractions for Vurugu 2.0.
Celebrity boxing has increasingly become a major entertainment phenomenon across East Africa, drawing musicians, influencers, comedians, socialites, and public figures into exhibition-style combat matches designed to entertain fans and generate online buzz.
The Vurugu franchise itself has rapidly grown in popularity after the success of its inaugural event, which combined combat sports with live performances and internet-fueled rivalries.
Unlike many celebrity participants entering boxing for the first time, Shakib Cham already has experience inside the ring and has participated in boxing-related events in Uganda.
Arrow Bwoy, however, appears confident heading into the matchup, continuing to fuel the rivalry with humorous jabs and confident predictions on social media.
The fight is expected to attract significant regional attention, especially due to the cross-border celebrity appeal both personalities command online.
Beyond the fights, Vurugu 2.0 is also positioning itself as a full entertainment festival.
Nigerian Afrobeats star Ruger is expected to headline the music lineup alongside Kenyan rap heavyweight Khaligraph Jones.
Popular DJs and entertainers including DJ Kym Nickdee and Moh Spice are also expected to perform during the event.
Kenyan fighter Majembe, whose real name is Portifas Odipo, is scheduled to return to the ring after his victory during the inaugural Vurugu event. He is expected to face a top Somali boxer in another highly anticipated East African clash, though organizers have not yet officially revealed his opponent’s name.
Another confirmed undercard matchup will feature Phil versus Gachau in a local bout that promoters say could become one of the sleeper fights of the evening.
According to organizers, additional undercard matches and ranking fights are still being finalized ahead of the June event.
