KAPITI, Machakos – Six people lost their lives while seven others were injured in a grisly road crash involving two lorries and a passenger bus along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway at Kapiti Plains in Machakos County.
The collision happened at about 1:50 a.m. after a lorry travelling from Mombasa towards Nairobi is said to have crashed into an oncoming lorry.
Police said the force of the impact caused the second lorry to veer off its lane before colliding head-on with a Tahmeed passenger bus that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The drivers of the first lorry and the Tahmeed bus were killed on the spot, together with four passengers who were aboard the bus.
Seven other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the victims were moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations, while the damaged vehicles are being towed to Kyumbi Police Station as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
