BOSTON, United States – Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has addressed allegations that foreign nationals could be facilitated to participate in Kenya’s 2027 General Election, insisting that non-Kenyans will not be allowed to vote.
Speaking to Kenyans in Boston, United States, on Friday, October 2, Gachagua said Kenyans would prevent foreigners from accessing polling stations.
He suggested that groups of voters could verify one another before voting, arguing that anyone not known to members of such groups could be prevented from voting.
“There are no Ugandans who will vote in Kenya. People will not allow their country to be covered by foreigners,” Gachagua said.
IEBC Dismisses Voter Smuggling Claims
Gachagua’s remarks come days after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) dismissed allegations that foreigners, including Ugandan nationals, were being facilitated to obtain Kenyan identification documents and register as voters.
The electoral commission said on September 28 that it had not received credible evidence supporting the allegations of illegal registration of foreign nationals.
The IEBC said any credible evidence of malpractice would be investigated and appropriate action taken.
The controversy has emerged as Kenya conducts Continuous Voter Registration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua Accuses Ruto Of Planting ‘Moles’
Gachagua also accused President William Ruto of attempting to divide the opposition, alleging that the President had placed “moles” within the United Opposition to disrupt its activities.
The DCP leader said his party had developed what he called a “Kasongometer” to identify individuals he believes are working to undermine the opposition.
“He has planted moles everywhere to disturb, divide and confuse our people, but in DCP we have developed an equipment called Kasongometer. We are detecting this fellow five kilometres ahead,” Gachagua said.
