NAIROBI, Kenya – Gladys Wairimu Kariuki, the widow of the late veteran politician Godfrey Gitahi ‘G.G.’ Kariuki, has passed away.
She died on Sunday morning at Nairobi Hospital while undergoing treatment, her family confirmed. She was 80 years old.
A former Chairlady of the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) in Laikipia, Mrs Kariuki was also a former councillor, a teacher at Ngarenaro Primary School in Nyahururu, and a respected elder of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA).
She is survived by five children, several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, G.G. Kariuki, a former Internal Security Minister and Laikipia Senator, died in June 2017, also at the age of 80.
