NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Railways has announced a temporary suspension of the Limuru commuter train service scheduled for Friday, January 9, 2026.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the corporation stated that both the morning and evening trains operating between Nairobi Central Station and Limuru will not run due to “unavoidable circumstances.”
Kenya Railways did not disclose the specific reason for the interruption. However, it assured passengers that the disruption would be short-lived and that normal operations would resume on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The Limuru route is a key component of the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service. It serves hundreds of passengers who travel daily between Nairobi and parts of Kiambu County for work, school, and business.
The suspension is expected to inconvenience regular commuters who depend on the service as an affordable and reliable transport option. Kenya Railways advised affected passengers to make alternative travel arrangements for the day.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the notice, signed by the Managing Director, stated.
The corporation said passengers seeking clarification or further assistance can contact its customer service team through the official phone numbers 0709 907 000 and 0709 907 555, or via email at info@krc.co.ke.
Kenya Railways added that any additional updates will be communicated through its official website and social media platforms.
The commuter rail service has become increasingly important in easing congestion on major roads linking Nairobi to its neighbouring counties.
