Brookside Uganda Gains Ground with Quality Endorsement, Eyes Market Expansion

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Uganda’s Brookside Limited, a subsidiary of Kenya’s Brookside Dairy, has just received a significant boost in its quest to dominate the regional dairy market.

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) recently certified the company’s milk quality testing systems, a nod to Brookside’s commitment to maintaining high standards.

This endorsement not only strengthens Brookside’s position in Uganda but also sets the stage for the company’s ambitious plans to expand its market reach.

The UNBS’s recognition of Brookside’s testing systems is a major milestone for the company.

On July 30, the bureau issued a certificate of laboratory recognition, validating the technical competence and robust management systems in place at Brookside’s Kampala facility.

This certification underscores the company’s adherence to international standards, particularly in the areas of chemistry and microbiology analysis of milk and dairy products.

Brookside Limited’s General Manager, Benson Mwangi, expressed his satisfaction with the recognition, emphasizing that it reflects the company’s dedication to quality.

“Achieving the ISO 17025 standard on laboratory management is a testament to our rigorous milk quality testing processes,” Mwangi said, speaking from Kampala.

The certification is not just a feather in Brookside’s cap; it solidifies the firm’s market leadership in East Africa’s dairy industry.

The company has also earned accolades for its tax compliance in Uganda, further bolstering its reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.

Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General John Musinguzi highlighted Brookside’s role in supporting the country’s economic development, praising the firm for its contributions.

However, the journey hasn’t been entirely smooth. Brookside Uganda is currently engaged in a tussle with the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB), as it pushes for greater access to the Kenyan market.

Brookside claims that while KDB has permitted imports from other Ugandan processors, its Fresh Dairy brand has been denied the same access.

Despite this, KDB’s managing director, Margaret Kibogy, has assured that Kenya remains committed to supporting trade and investment in the dairy sector.

As Brookside continues to cement its market presence, it is also setting its sights on expanding exports to Kenya. Despite the current challenges with KDB, Brookside is optimistic about its growth prospects.
