NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has directed cargo consolidators, customs agents and importers to declare individual importer details for goods brought into the country as consolidated cargo.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, October 27, KRA said the information is required to facilitate the issuance of electronic tax invoices through the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS).
The authority said the process would allow eligible VAT-registered importers to claim input VAT on imported goods, subject to applicable tax laws and regulations.
Details required from importers
KRA said consolidators must provide each importer’s name, Personal Identification Number (PIN), identity card number and telephone number.
They must also declare a description and the value of the items being imported.
The requirement took effect on September 13, 2026, according to the notice. KRA said consolidators, customs agents and importers must ensure the details are complete and accurate for all consolidated cargo imports.
The authority said the measure is intended to improve transparency and accountability, support compliance with customs and tax laws, and promote fair competition among businesses.
KRA said it was working with cargo consolidators to facilitate the issuance of electronic tax invoices to traders and importers whose goods are transported in consolidated shipments.
For assistance, the authority asked the public to contact its call centre on 020 4 999 999 or 0711 099 999, or email callcentre@kra.go.ke.
