Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has promised his wife, Reverend Dorcas, a “biggest birthday celebration bash ever” next year, linking the pledge to his political ambition and a painful period in their marriage.

In a birthday message shared on Monday, Gachagua said the couple had faced a humiliating experience two years earlier, when they felt betrayed by a man they had “sacrificed everything to make king”.

Gachagua was impeached  in October 2024 as Deputy President after a bitter fallout with President William Ruto.

Gachagua said he and Dorcas were now a “very happy family” and had received blessings and public acceptance over the past two years.

He also said they were preparing to travel back to Kenya and promised to hold the birthday celebration at what he called “the most coveted address in the country”.

On October 17, 2024, the Senate upheld his impeachment on five of the 11 grounds approved by the National Assembly, removing him from office.

He became the first Kenyan deputy president to leave office through an impeachment trial. Gachagua denied the allegations against him and challenged his removal.

Gachagua and Dorcas have been in the United States since late August.

His party announced a tour involving meetings with Kenyans in several cities, including Spokane, Portland, Kansas City, Dallas and Boston.

He travelled with Dorcas and initially said the trip would give them time together before his political engagements began.

The published diaspora schedule was due to end in Boston on October 10.

But Gachagua later said he would stay longer at his Texas property, which he described as a private home, for further political meetings.

Gachagua has used the US visit to meet diaspora communities and discuss his party’s agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In the birthday note, he said the coming year would see him engage the “final gear in the liberation of our country”.

Gachagua said he had made many promises during the couple’s 37 years of marriage and kept most of them, adding that this was one he “SHALL” and “MUST” honour.
