Kenya and Italy Strengthen Ties in Criminal Justice Sector

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW, held a consultative meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Vincenzo Del Monaco, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the criminal justice sector.

The discussions focused on reinforcing interagency and bilateral collaboration between Kenya and Italy, including the exchange of perspectives on prosecutorial mandates and exploring practical avenues to address emerging and transnational crimes.

A key point of the engagement was Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) in criminal matters, with both sides identifying opportunities to strengthen mechanisms that facilitate cross-border investigations and prosecutions.

The DPP and the Italian Ambassador also emphasized deepening institutional partnerships to support effective information sharing and coordinated action between the two countries, reflecting a shared commitment to tackling crime and enhancing the rule of law.

Both parties expressed optimism that the engagement would lay the groundwork for a more robust and cooperative criminal justice framework.
