Traffic Snarl Expected as KeNHA Temporarily Shuts Southern Bypass

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Motorists using the Nairobi Southern Bypass towards Ole Sereni are experiencing disruptions after the road was temporarily closed following a traffic accident.

In a traffic advisory issued on April 24, 2026, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced the closure of a section of the bypass between the Thogoto Interchange and Dagoretti Interchange near Karinde.

According to KeNHA, the decision to shut down the affected stretch was made after a road traffic accident occurred earlier in the morning, prompting authorities to halt traffic to facilitate emergency response and clearance operations.

The highways authority warned motorists to expect delays along the affected corridor and advised them to plan their journeys accordingly as teams work to restore normal traffic flow.

Drivers who had not yet begun their journeys were urged to consider using the Kikuyu – Mutuini – Dagoretti (C63 Road) as an alternative route to avoid the congestion caused by the closure.

KeNHA also called on motorists to cooperate with traffic marshals and enforcement officers deployed at the scene to manage the situation and ensure safety along the road.

The authority assured road users that efforts were ongoing to clear the affected section and reopen the road as soon as possible.

“We are working around the clock to restore normal traffic flow and ensure the safety of motorists,” the government institution said.
