Tanzanian music stars Diamond Platnumz and Ommy Dimpoz have visited President Samia Suluhu Hassan at her home in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, to offer condolences following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
The two musicians travelled to Zanzibar on Wednesday, September 9, joining other public figures who went to comfort the President and her family following the death of the 76-year-old First Gentleman.
Hafidh died on September 7 at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar after battling a heart condition. His family buried him in Kizimkazi on the same day, according to reports.
Diamond and Ommy Dimpoz were accompanied by other Tanzanian personalities, including musicians and entertainers who also wanted to stand with Samia during the mourning period.
Photos and videos from the visit showed Diamond meeting the President and offering her comfort as she mourned her husband.
Following the visit, Diamond urged Tanzanians to put aside their differences and show compassion to Samia as she deals with the personal loss.
“Tuweke tofauti zetu pembeni na tumfarije huyu mama, ni mtu pia.”
The statement translates to: “Let us put our differences aside and comfort this mother; she is a human being too.”
Ommy Dimpoz accompanied Diamond during the visit and joined the delegation in offering condolences to the President.
The singer has maintained a long-standing presence in Tanzania’s entertainment industry and has previously worked alongside Diamond and other leading Bongo Flava artists.
The musicians’ appearance at Samia’s residence came as Tanzanians continued to mourn Hafidh, who had largely maintained a private profile despite his position as the President’s husband.
Hafidh laid to rest in Zanzibar
Hafidh’s death prompted an outpouring of condolences from Tanzanian political leaders, public figures and ordinary citizens.
He was married to Samia for decades and remained largely away from the political spotlight during her rise through government.
Samia became Tanzania’s first female President in March 2021 following the death of President John Magufuli. Hafidh subsequently became the country’s First Gentleman, a role that carried public attention but did not place him at the centre of government affairs.
His death has therefore brought renewed attention to the private side of the President’s life.
The funeral took place in Kizimkazi, where family members, government officials, friends and members of the public gathered to pay their final respects.
Following the burial, several prominent Tanzanians travelled to Samia’s residence to comfort her and her family.
Since Hafidh’s death, Samia has received messages of condolence from leaders and members of the public across Tanzania and beyond.
The President has continued to receive visitors at her Kizimkazi home as relatives, friends, political figures and public personalities offer their sympathies.
