Kenyan rapper and singer Fena Gitu has joined the Hennessy Cypher Class of 2026, representing Kenya in the latest edition of the pan-African hip-hop platform.
Fena is among six artists from Africa and its diaspora selected for this year’s Hennessy Cypher, a collaborative project that brings together distinct rap styles, cultures and sounds from across the world.
The Kenyan musician, who is also a Hennessy brand ambassador, joins Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur, British-Nigerian rapper ENNY, Ivorian rapper Suspect 95, South African artist Yanga Chief and Cameroonian rapper Tenor for the 2026 edition.
The project features Nigerian producer Sarz, who provides the musical foundation for the collaboration.
The cypher was filmed in Johannesburg, South Africa, bringing together artists from different parts of the continent and its diaspora for a single hip-hop showcase.
The resulting track and accompanying video were released on August 7, 2026, and are available across major streaming platforms.
Fena’s participation places another Kenyan female hip-hop artist on one of Hennessy’s most prominent international music platforms.
Known for her work as a rapper, singer and songwriter, Fena has built a career around a blend of hip-hop, Afro-pop and other contemporary African sounds.
Her selection for the 2026 Cypher gives her an opportunity to showcase her lyrical ability alongside some of the continent’s established rap voices.
As a Hennessy ambassador, Fena has also been involved with the brand’s music-focused campaigns, making her selection a continuation of her relationship with the French cognac brand.
Her appearance follows Femi One’s participation in the 2025 Hennessy Cypher, where the Kenyan rapper joined artists from across Africa and the United Kingdom.
The Hennessy Cypher has developed into an important platform for hip-hop artists, particularly across Africa. The project gives rappers an opportunity to collaborate outside their individual markets while introducing audiences to artists from different countries.
Over the years, the Cypher has expanded beyond its Nigerian roots to include artists from several African countries and the diaspora.
