Murugi Munyi Calls Out Motorists Who Block Ambulances After Uncle’s Death in Transit

NAIROBI, Kenya – Content creator Murugi Munyi has spoken out against motorists who fail to give way to ambulances, following the loss of her close uncle.

She revealed that her uncle was being rushed to hospital in an ambulance during his final moments, a situation she said made the tragedy even more painful.

Murugi said the experience deepened her concern over a behaviour she has repeatedly witnessed on the road of drivers refusing to clear the way for ambulances, often under the assumption that they are empty or simply attempting to bypass traffic.

“My close uncle recently passed away. And in his final moments, he was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance,” Murugi Munyi said on Friday, May 8, 2026.

She noted that many motorists fail to appreciate the urgency behind emergency sirens, leading to dangerous delays for patients in critical condition.

“I have been in traffic many times where I have seen motorists or vehicles refusing to give way to an ambulance,” she added.

Murugi further criticised the attitude of some drivers who deliberately obstruct ambulances, believing there may be no patient on board.

“With the reasoning that they probably don’t have anyone inside, so let us just block them,” she said.

Emphasising the importance of yielding to emergency vehicles, she urged motorists to always make way for ambulances, noting that lives are often at stake.

“Give ambulances way. Because yeah, maybe sometimes there isn’t anyone in there and the driver is just trying to escape traffic, but sometimes it is your loved one,” she said.

She also reminded road users that emergencies can affect anyone at any time, urging empathy and caution on the roads.

“One day it could be your child, one day it could be you,” Murugi Munyi said.

Murugi stressed that ambulances should always be treated with urgency, noting that in medical emergencies, every second can determine survival.
