Dr Obwaka To Be Laid to Rest in Mumias on May 15

NAIROBI, Kenya — The family of the late renowned Kenyan gynaecologist Dr. Job Masakhwe Lukuru Obwaka, who died on May 1, 2026, aged 83, has announced his funeral arrangements.

In a statement shared with relatives and friends, the veteran medic will be laid to rest in his rural home in Mumias later this month.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, at Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Valley Road in Nairobi from 10:00 a.m., followed by the departure of the funeral cortege from Lee Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14.

The body will then be transported to Musanda Village in Mumias for burial on Friday, May 15, 2026.

The family has also planned daily funeral meetings at CITAM Valley Road on May 6, 7, 8, and 11 from 5:30 p.m. as preparations continue for the final send-off.

Dr. Obwaka, who served for decades as a gynaecologist and obstetrician and was also a board member at Nairobi Hospital, was widely respected for his contribution to maternal and reproductive healthcare in Kenya.

Meanwhile, an autopsy conducted on May 5 confirmed that the veteran medic died of cardiac arrest.

Family representative Joseph Ndungu said further examinations, including toxicological analysis, will be carried out to determine whether external factors may have contributed to his death.
