Camp Mulla Reunites After Years Away for One-Night Performance

Award-nominated Kenyan urban music group Camp Mulla will reunite for a one-night-only performance at the upcoming Kulture Experience concert, marking the group’s first major comeback appearance in years.

The announcement has generated excitement among Kenyan music fans, many of whom have waited more than a decade to see the iconic group perform together again following their sudden split in 2013.

“Camp Mulla made Kenyan pop feel fresh, cool and limitless, and somehow the songs still hit just as hard today. Get ready for a proper throwback moment at KULTURE.”

In another post, the organizers described the group as pioneers who built a movement before the rise of social media virality.

“Before going viral existed… They had already created a movement,” the statement read.

“Camp Mulla soundtracked an era with infectious hooks, youthful swagger and songs that instantly take us back. Experience it again at KULTURE.”

The reunion is significant for Kenyan music culture because Camp Mulla remains one of the country’s most influential urban music groups despite its relatively short run.

The group rose to fame in the early 2010s with hit songs such as ‘Party Don’t Stop,’ ‘Fresh All Day,’ ‘Hold It Down,’ and ‘Shughuli,’ becoming a dominant force in Kenya’s youth entertainment scene.

Camp Mulla stood out for blending hip-hop, pop, alternative music, and Afro-urban sounds while maintaining a distinctly Nairobi identity.

Their music, fashion, and overall image helped redefine Kenyan urban pop culture at the time.

The group also achieved a historic milestone in 2012 after becoming the first Kenyan music act ever nominated for a BET Award in the Best International Act: Africa category.

The nomination elevated the group’s profile across the continent and positioned them alongside some of Africa’s biggest artists.

However, Camp Mulla shocked fans in 2013 after announcing a split at the height of their popularity. The breakup left many supporters questioning how far the group could have gone had the members remained together.

Since then, the individual members pursued different personal and professional paths, with some relocating abroad and others building solo music careers.

Singer and songwriter Karun particularly established herself as one of Kenya’s most respected alternative artists following the split.

Despite occasional reunion rumours over the years, members previously suggested a full comeback was unlikely, making the latest announcement a major surprise for fans.

The upcoming performance now offers supporters an opportunity to relive one of Kenya’s most celebrated urban music eras.

The reunion also forms part of a larger throwback celebration at the Kulture Experience concert, which will feature several legendary Kenyan artists associated with the golden era of local music in the 2000s and early 2010s.

Camp Mulla is expected to share the stage with established stars including Juacali, Wyre, and Nameless.
