Maureen Waititu has spoken candidly about the flood of messages she receives following her weight loss transformation, revealing that some of the comments and questions sent to her daily are frustrating, invasive, and often dismissive of the health struggles she faced before changing her life.
In a raw and direct statement shared online, the media personality listed five recurring questions and comments she says “drive me crazy because I can’t answer them,” using the moment to set the record straight about her journey.
The first type of message she highlighted was from followers asking her to personally guide them through weight loss.
“Maureen please help me lose weight,” she quoted, before responding firmly: “Only specialists can help you with that.”
Another common question, according to Maureen, is people repeatedly asking what method she used.
“What are you using to lose weight?” she wrote, clearly frustrated by how often it comes up.
She responded by reminding followers that she has spoken publicly about it several times already.
“I have said it over and over again that I got gastric sleeve done almost two years ago.”
Gastric sleeve surgery, a medical weight-loss procedure that reduces stomach size and is often recommended for patients dealing with obesity-related health risks.
The third question she highlighted reflected a common demand in body image conversations.
“How do I just get rid of my tummy and not the other parts of my body?”
Maureen admitted she does not have the answer, but pointed people toward a medical professional she trusts.
“I don’t know but you can talk to Dr… I’ve seen his work, I vouch for him.”
She also shared another frequent message: “Maureen how do I lose weight?” followed by crying emojis.
She did not elaborate directly on this one.
“I like it when you were big,” she wrote, adding tears to express her reaction.
Maureen said statements like that ignore the private pain she was experiencing while living in a larger body.
“Anyone saying that is clearly not aware of how much pain I was in.”
She then detailed the health and emotional struggles she had been silently dealing with.
“I was borderline diabetic, my self-esteem was in the gutters, I couldn’t do simple tasks like zipping up my clothes, tying my shoes and I was always out of breath.”
She added that being asthmatic made things harder, while rheumatoid arthritis left her in “great pain.”
“And now I’m free from all that,” she said.
Closing her message, Maureen clarified that she was not trying to justify herself.
“No, this is not an explanation,” she said. “It’s just a much needed information for the questions I find in my DMs daily.”
