NAIROBI, Kenya — The East African celebrity boxing scene is set for a major revival as promoter and entertainer Oga Obinna officially announces the return of his hit series, Vurugu 2.0, at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi.
The event promises a high-octane blend of professional combat and top-tier musical entertainment.
Cross-Border Showdown
Headlining the fight card is a cross-border showdown between Kenyan dancehall star Arrow Bwoy and Ugandan boxer Shakib Cham Lutaaya.
The match has already generated significant buzz online, particularly due to Shakib’s high-profile marriage to celebrated socialite Zari Hassan.
The “Ultimate Arena” match-up marks a significant step up in rivalry for the Vurugu franchise. While Arrow Bwoy is primarily known for his musical hits, he will step into the ring against a seasoned opponent in Shakib.
Joining them on the card are two other formidable bodybuilders, Phil and Gachau, cementing the event’s reputation for serious athletic competition alongside its celebrity appeal.

Musical Powerhouses
In true Oga Obinna fashion, Vurugu 2.0 is not just about the punches. Nigerian superstar Ruger is set to make a major appearance, alongside Kenya’s “OG” Khaligraph Jones.
The decks will be manned by popular disc jockeys, including DJ Kym Nickdee and Moh Spice, ensuring a festival-like atmosphere.
Vurugu Legacy
The Vurugu boxing series rose to prominence following the inaugural event at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in April 2026.
That event, which saw Majembe face off against Mbavu Destroyer, became a cultural phenomenon, drawing over 600,000 views on digital platforms and sparking weeks of debate over officiating and athlete rewards.
Obinna has consistently stated that his goal is to provide a platform for both established athletes and public personalities to settle scores.
The previous Vurugu event faced a brief legal challenge at the Sports Disputes Tribunal, but those hurdles were cleared in late April, allowing Obinna to proceed with the star-studded sequel.
