NAIROBI, Kenya- Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has publicly dismissed rumours that her marriage to lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo has collapsed, using humour to shut down speculation that has circulated widely on social media in recent days.
The governor has laughed off claims that her husband had left her, joking in Kiswahili: “Ati nimewachwa, siwezi kubali kuwachwa na hii baridi yote ya Gichugu.”
Translated loosely, the remark means: “They say I’ve been left? I can’t accept being left with all this cold weather in Gichugu.”
Her comments appeared to directly respond to persistent online claims alleging that the couple had quietly separated after years of marriage.
The rumours have spread across several social media platforms but have not been supported by any official statement from either Waiguru or Waiganjo.
Waiguru’s light-hearted response drew laughter from the audience and was widely interpreted as a clear indication that she was dismissing the speculation rather than confirming it.
The governor and Waiganjo formalised their relationship in 2019 after a traditional Kikuyu wedding ceremony in Kirinyaga County, following Waiganjo’s proposal earlier that year. Since then, the couple has occasionally shared glimpses of their life together at public events and on social media.
Although rumours about their relationship have resurfaced from time to time, Waiguru’s latest remarks suggest she is unfazed by the speculation, choosing humour over a detailed response.
Her quip has since gone viral online, with many Kenyans praising her witty way of addressing the rumours.
