NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyan singer Sofiya Nzau is set to take another major step on the global music scene after teaming up with American R&B star Chlöe Bailey, British amapiano DJ and artist Skyla Tylaa, and Deepa on a new single titled “Makuhia.”
The cross-continental collaboration is scheduled for release on Friday, August 28, 2026, bringing together artists from Kenya, the United States and the United Kingdom.
The track brings together British amapiano and house rhythms, contemporary R&B and East African Afro-house influences, creating a sound that connects different musical styles and markets.
For Nzau, “Makuhia” represents another important international milestone following the global success of her hit “Mwaki,” a collaboration with Brazilian DJ and producer Zerb.
Nzau gained worldwide attention for her distinctive vocals on the song, which she performed in Kikuyu. “Mwaki” became a major international streaming success and established the Kenyan singer as a prominent voice in the global electronic music scene.
Her involvement in “Makuhia” continues that journey by placing her Kenyan vocal identity at the centre of another international collaboration. The upcoming single also demonstrates how Nzau continues to incorporate African musical influences into projects aimed at international audiences.
American singer and songwriter Chlöe Bailey brings her contemporary R&B sound to the project. Chlöe first gained widespread recognition alongside her sister Halle Bailey as the duo Chloe x Halle, before launching a successful solo career.
Her addition gives “Makuhia” a strong American R&B element while complementing the African-inspired rhythms that underpin the track. The collaboration also gives Nzau an opportunity to introduce her music to Chlöe’s established international audience.
British DJ and artist Skyla Tylaa is also central to the collaboration. Tylaa has developed her career around amapiano and Afro-electronic music, with her sound drawing from African club genres and contemporary electronic music. She is a DJ, performer and rising artist who has taken her amapiano and Afro-electronic sound to international stages.
Her involvement helps shape the song’s British-Amapiano identity while connecting it to the wider global dance music scene. Tylaa has previously worked with African artists, including Diamond Platnumz, Tyler ICU and DJ Exit on “Bombshell (Cheza).”
The collaboration also includes musical contributions from Deepa, adding another creative voice to the project.
With four artists involved, “Makuhia” brings together different backgrounds and musical influences while maintaining a strong African identity.
