Chelsea’s miserable Premier League run deepened after a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, their sixth consecutive league loss — in a match overshadowed by a serious head injury to teenage debutant Jesse Derry.

The 18-year-old, making his first league start, was stretchered off following a heavy clash of heads with Forest defender Zach Abbott during the first half at Stamford Bridge.

The incident led to a lengthy stoppage as medical teams rushed onto the pitch.

Chelsea later confirmed that Derry was taken to the hospital as a precaution but was conscious and speaking.

Forest punish struggling Chelsea

On the pitch, Nottingham Forest capitalised on Chelsea’s poor form, securing a convincing victory that effectively ended the Blues’ hopes of a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.

Forest struck early through Taiwo Awoniyi before adding a second via a penalty from Igor Jesus. Awoniyi grabbed his second after the break, putting the visitors firmly in control.

Chelsea’s night went from bad to worse when Cole Palmer missed a penalty, awarded following the incident involving Derry. A late consolation goal from João Pedro did little to change the outcome.

Match marred by multiple injuries

Derry’s injury was not the only concern in a game marked by several head collisions. Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez were also forced off after a separate clash later in the match.

The scenes involving Derry, however, left Stamford Bridge subdued, with both sets of fans applauding as he was taken off the field.

Season hits new low

The defeat marks Chelsea’s worst run of league form in years, with six straight losses leaving the club’s season in disarray.

With only a handful of matches remaining, pressure continues to mount on the squad as they struggle to salvage pride from a disappointing campaign.

For now, though, attention remains firmly on Derry’s recovery after a night that highlighted both Chelsea’s struggles — and the human cost of the game.
