Kenya’s sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala delivered another statement performance on Saturday after winning the men’s 100 metres at the Xiamen Diamond League in China with a blistering time of 9.94 seconds.

The victory marked Omanyala’s fifth consecutive sub-10-second performance this season, further cementing his status as one of the world’s top sprinters ahead of a packed international athletics calendar.

Competing against a star-studded field, the African record holder powered past South Africa’s Gift Leotlela and American Trayvon Bromell in a thrilling final at the Diamond League meeting.

Leotlela finished second in exactly 10.00 seconds while Bromell settled for third place in 10.03 seconds.

The win was particularly significant for Omanyala after narrowly missing victory at the Shanghai Diamond League last week, where he finished second behind Leotlela in a tightly contested race.

Saturday’s triumph confirmed the Kenyan sprinter’s growing form and consistency as he continues building momentum towards the World Athletics Championships season.

Omanyala has enjoyed an impressive 2026 outdoor campaign so far. He opened the season with victory at the Cape Milers Continental Tour in South Africa before clocking 9.98 seconds at the Addis Ababa Grand Prix and later improving to 9.96 seconds at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi.

The 30-year-old now appears to be rediscovering the explosive form that made him Africa’s fastest man.

Omanyala remains the African record holder in the 100 metres after clocking 9.77 seconds in Nairobi in 2021, a performance that made him the fastest African sprinter in history and one of the fastest men ever over the distance.

His latest victory in Xiamen also strengthens his confidence ahead of upcoming Diamond League meetings and major global competitions where he is expected to challenge some of the world’s biggest sprint stars.

The Xiamen Diamond League attracted several elite sprinters from across the globe, with attention firmly fixed on the men’s 100m showdown featuring Omanyala, Bromell, Leotlela and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo.

Omanyala’s performance sparked excitement among Kenyan athletics fans, many of whom have continued rallying behind the sprinter as he pursues global sprint dominance.

The Kenyan star has repeatedly expressed confidence in his ability to run even faster times and challenge the very best on the world stage.

With his sub-10 consistency now firmly back, Omanyala appears to be entering one of the strongest phases of his sprinting career.
