Kenya’s national eFootball console team has made history after finishing among the top four teams in Africa at the FIFAe Continental Championship 2026 in Casablanca, Morocco.
The Kenyan team ended its impressive debut campaign on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after narrowly losing to Madagascar in the semifinal.
Kenya lost the first leg 3-2 before holding Madagascar to a 1-1 draw in the second leg. The results gave Madagascar a 4-3 aggregate victory and ended Kenya’s hopes of reaching the final.
Despite the semifinal defeat, Kenya secured a historic top-four finish in its debut appearance at the continental championship.
The achievement marked another major milestone for the country’s rapidly developing esports sector. Kenya’s run to the continental top four began several months before the team arrived in Morocco.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) partnered with the Esports Kenya Federation (ESKF) to create a pathway for Kenya to participate in the FIFAe 2026 qualification cycle.
The partnership provided the framework for national selection, preparation and participation in the international competition.
The process then moved to the national trials, where Kenyan eFootball players competed for the opportunity to represent the country.
The selection process included talent identification through local competitions, including the Nairobi eFootball Cup, before the eventual national team took shape.
The next stage came through the FIFAe Nations League Africa Region, which served as the qualification pathway to the Continental Championship.
Kenya competed in the African 2v2 console competition during three qualification windows held between April and July.
The team made an impressive start to its campaign, recording four victories on the opening match day.
Kenya continued collecting valuable points during the subsequent qualification windows and eventually secured a place among the top eight nations in Africa.
That performance earned Kenya qualification for the FIFAe Continental Championship in Casablanca.
The Continental Championship brought together eight African nations. Kenya competed alongside hosts Morocco, Madagascar, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire.
The tournament used a single round-robin format, with the participating nations competing for positions that would determine their progression to the knockout stage.
For Kenya, the tournament presented an opportunity to measure itself against some of the continent’s strongest eFootball teams after successfully navigating the qualification process.
In the quarterfinal, Kenya faced Senegal, one of the established football nations on the continent, in a crucial knockout tie.
The Kenyan duo produced a strong performance to defeat Senegal and secure a place in the semifinals.
Kenya’s historic journey eventually came to an end against Madagascar in the semifinals.
The first leg produced a tightly contested encounter, with Madagascar edging Kenya 3-2.
The result left Kenya needing a victory in the return leg to overturn the deficit.
The Kenyan team fought back in the second match but could only manage a 1-1 draw.
Madagascar therefore advanced on a 4-3 aggregate score, while Kenya finished among the top four teams in Africa.
Although the result ended Kenya’s title hopes, the semifinal appearance represented the country’s best moment of the tournament.
Kenya’s historic campaign featured Daniel Kibiwott and Martin Kibiwot, who represented the country in the console competition.
The duo competed under the guidance of coach Mohammed Nur, popularly known as Moha Gamer.
Following the campaign, the Football Kenya Federation celebrated the players and coaching staff for making the country proud during its debut season.
