KISII, Kenya — The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two more Nyamira County Assembly officials over alleged irregularities in the award of a Sh367 million tender for the construction of an office block.
EACC said the alleged irregularities in the procurement process resulted in the loss of Sh30.18 million in public funds.
The latest suspects are David Nyirango Ombego, Deputy Clerk/Director of Legislative, Legal Procedure and Committee Services, and Joyce Onyiego, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation.
The two were arrested within Kisii County in an operation conducted by EACC investigators.
Officials Face Abuse Of Office Allegations
According to EACC, the officials are expected to face charges including abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with laws relating to the management of public funds and negligence of official duty.
The suspects were being processed at the EACC South Nyanza Regional Office in Kisii pending their arraignment in court.
EACC has not said when the two will be presented before court.
Three Officials Previously Charged
The latest arrests bring to five the number of Nyamira County Assembly officials linked to the tender investigation.
Three other officials previously arrested and charged are Duke Simeon Onyari, Clerk of the Nyamira County Assembly; Eng. Josephat Matini Oruru, Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works; and Simon Ondari Ogecha, Infrastructure Officer.
