NAIROBI, Kenya- A post-mortem examination has revealed that Eric Otieno, the Mathare boda boda rider who died shortly after his release from Muthaiga Police Station, succumbed to internal haemorrhage, raising fresh questions over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Otieno, 19, died on Sunday, hours after he was released from police custody, prompting demands from his family, residents and human rights activists for a thorough and independent investigation into the events leading to his death.
According to the post-mortem findings, the fatal injury was internal bleeding, indicating that Otieno suffered significant trauma before his death.
The circumstances under which he sustained the injuries remain under investigation.
The case has sparked concern among residents of Mathare and renewed scrutiny of police conduct, with calls for investigators to establish whether Otieno sustained the injuries before, during or after his detention at Muthaiga Police Station.
