NAIROBI, Kenya- Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has called on communities living in Nakuru County to coexist peacefully, urging residents to reject attempts to divide them along ethnic lines.
Gachagua said Nakuru belongs to all Kenyans and urged residents from different communities to work, trade and live together.
“Let all communities in Nakuru live in harmony. We want to call for peaceful co-existence among all communities living in Kenya,” Gachagua said.
“Nakuru is the home of Kenya. Don’t agree to be set against each other. This is your home. You have no other home.”
The former Deputy President further encouraged communities to deepen their social and economic ties by doing business together and intermarrying.
“I want to ask all communities to co-exist, do business together and intermarry,” he said.
Gachagua opens DCP Nakuru office
Gachagua spoke during the official opening of the DCP Nakuru County office in Nakuru Town East as the party intensifies its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The opening forms part of Gachagua’s ongoing political activities in Nakuru County.
The DCP had announced a wider mobilisation programme in the county, including engagements in Naivasha, Gilgil and Nakuru town.
The former Deputy President has increasingly positioned DCP as a growing political vehicle ahead of the 2027 contest.
In July, he said 24 MCAs from Laikipia and Nakuru had joined the party, describing the defections as evidence of growing support for DCP.
‘DCP is growing exponentially’
Gachagua also used the occasion to highlight what he described as the rapid growth of the party.
“Our Party, DCP PARTY is exponentially growing by leaps and bounds,” he said, attributing the party’s appeal to its message of listening to ordinary Kenyans.
“Our strong association with the mantra—listening to the people—has made us the darling of Kenyans.”
He said he was encouraged by the rapid establishment and growth of DCP offices across the country.
“It is truly encouraging to see our Party grow rapidly within a very short time of its formation. We continue to grow and soar. Green is wealth and future,” he said.
Gachagua has used the slogan “Green is Wealth, Green is the Future” during recent DCP mobilisation activities, including the opening of the party’s Naivasha office at the start of his Nakuru tour.
Peace message follows political tensions
Gachagua’s call for peaceful coexistence comes as political activity intensifies in Nakuru, a county with a history of ethnic and political tensions.
The DCP leader’s Nakuru tour has also attracted heightened attention following an attack on his convoy in Nakuru Town West on August 14.
Several vehicles in the motorcade were damaged during the incident, according to reports.
Gachagua has accused political actors linked to the government of involvement in the attack, allegations that have called for further investigation.
Against that backdrop, his appeal for communities to reject division and maintain peaceful relations is likely to feature prominently as DCP continues its mobilisation across Nakuru.
The former Deputy President is expected to continue engaging residents across the county as he builds the party’s grassroots network ahead of the 2027 elections.
