MERU, Kenya- Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his political mobilisation in the Mt Kenya region with a tour of Meru County as he seeks to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua’s visit to Meru comes as he continues building his political base after falling out with President William Ruto’s administration and positioning himself as a key figure in the opposition ahead of the next election cycle.
During the tour, the former Deputy President engaged local leaders and residents as part of efforts to strengthen unity within the broader Mt Kenya region.
He called for the region to maintain a common political voice and resist attempts to divide its support ahead of 2027.
The DCP leader has identified Meru and Embu as critical battlegrounds in his political strategy, with the Mt Kenya region playing a significant role in shaping national election outcomes due to its voting numbers and political influence.
Gachagua’s engagement in Meru follows a series of political activities across the country aimed at expanding his party’s grassroots presence.
He has been conducting public meetings and consultations as political alignments continue taking shape ahead of the General Election.
The former Deputy President has also used his visits to address local concerns, including economic issues affecting communities and questions around development priorities in the region.
In previous engagements in Meru, he criticised plans for a proposed State Lodge and golf course, arguing that residents’ priorities should focus on projects that directly benefit them.
Meru has historically been a politically influential county, with leaders from the region playing key roles in national politics.
The county’s support is expected to be heavily contested as politicians position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
