NYERI, Kenya-Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has held a second consultation meeting with businessman and political strategist Jimi Wanjigi as he continues efforts to build a broader political movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua said Wanjigi visited his Wamunyoro residence, where they held what he described as an “enriching and informative consultation” on the country’s political future.
The former Deputy President said the journey to what he termed the “liberation of the country” required the contribution of different voices and perspectives.
“The journey for the liberation of our country is a tough one and every opinion and advice is crucial. But we shall get there. It is a matter of when, not if,” Gachagua said.
He added that consultations would continue as he seeks to consolidate support and engage with different political actors.
Continued Political Engagements
The meeting marks the second known engagement between Gachagua and Wanjigi at the Wamunyoro residence, highlighting continued conversations between the DCP leader and the businessman who has previously been involved in national political strategy.
Wanjigi, a businessman with long-standing links to Kenya’s political circles, has in the past played advisory roles and engaged with different political formations.
The latest talks come as Gachagua intensifies efforts to position DCP as a major political vehicle ahead of the 2027 elections.
Post-Ol Kalou Momentum
The consultations come days after DCP secured a major victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, where its candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru defeated the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate.
The win has boosted Gachagua’s standing among supporters in the Mt Kenya region and increased focus on his efforts to expand the party’s influence beyond the region.
Gachagua has indicated that DCP’s strategy will involve grassroots mobilisation and engagement with leaders from different parts of the country.
Building Wider Political Alliances
The former Deputy President has recently stepped up consultations with political figures as he seeks to build a broader coalition ahead of the 2027 contest.
He has previously said that his political journey will involve listening to different stakeholders and creating a movement anchored on public support.
The meeting with Wanjigi adds to a series of political conversations at Wamunyoro, which has increasingly become a centre for discussions on Kenya’s next political direction.
“Consultations continue,” Gachagua said.
