NAIROBI, Kenya- The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reminded voters in Ol Kalou Constituency that they have only three days left before the parliamentary by-election scheduled for Thursday, July 16, urging them to carry the required identification documents to cast their ballots.
In a voter advisory issued on Monday, the commission said every voter must present either an original national identity card or a valid Kenyan passport at their designated polling station in order to vote.
The electoral agency also announced that all campaign activities must end at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, in line with electoral laws requiring campaigns to cease 48 hours before polling day.
The campaign period officially closes ahead of the July 16 mini-poll.
IEBC urged voters to rely on its official communication channels for accurate and up-to-date information regarding the by-election.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of former MP David Kiaraho in March, prompting the commission to schedule the by-election for July 16.
The by-election has attracted significant political attention, with several candidates seeking to succeed the late legislator amid heightened campaigns and increased security preparations.
The commission has repeatedly urged all stakeholders to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct and maintain peace before, during and after the vote.
Security agencies have also warned against unlawful activities around polling stations, stressing that only authorised election officials and security personnel will be responsible for safeguarding the electoral process.
