NAIROBI, Kenya- Deputy President Kithure Kindiki remains President William Ruto’s most preferred running mate ahead of the 2027 General Election, according to a new Infotrak survey that places him well ahead of other potential contenders in the broad-based government.
The poll, released on Monday, shows 34 per cent of respondents would prefer Kindiki to remain Ruto’s running mate, cementing his position as the clear frontrunner.
Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga emerged second with 11 per cent, while Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga was third with 5 per cent.
Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho followed with 4 per cent, while Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru garnered 3 per cent.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula each received 2 per cent support.
Despite Kindiki’s lead, the survey found that 37 per cent of respondents were undecided on who should deputise President Ruto in 2027, suggesting the race for the running mate slot remains fluid as the election approaches.
The survey also highlighted regional preferences, with respondents largely backing leaders from their respective regions.
In the Mt Kenya region, Kindiki commanded 41 per cent support, while Waiguru emerged as the second most preferred candidate from the region. In Nyanza, respondents favoured Wanga, with Oburu finishing second.
The findings come as political realignments continue to shape the country’s political landscape following the formation of the broad-based government that brought together leaders from Kenya Kwanza and sections of the opposition.
The latest poll was conducted by Infotrak Research and Consulting between June 22 and June 26, 2026, sampling 3,000 adult respondents across all 47 counties.
The survey forms part of the firm’s Voice of the People Poll, which tracks public opinion on national politics and governance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
