NAIROBI, Kenya- Constitutional lawyer Prof. Makau Mutua has praised President William Ruto’s leadership, describing him as patriotic, brilliant and one of the hardest-working presidents Kenya has ever had.
Mutua, who was once among Ruto’s fiercest critics and served as spokesperson for Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential campaign, said his opinion changed after working closely with the President for more than a year.
“I was a critic of the President; I have worked with him for more than a year. I am impressed by his patriotism; I am impressed by his brilliance,” Mutua, now serving as a senior advisor to the President, said during an interview on Citizen TV.
He said Ruto possesses a broad understanding of national issues and has demonstrated exceptional commitment to his responsibilities.
“He has a breadth of knowledge and a good mind that impresses me very much,” Mutua said.
According to the law professor, Ruto’s achievements during his first three and a half years in office stand out when compared to previous administrations.
“I have not seen a president of this country who has done as much as he has done in only three and a half years. I am truly impressed, and that is why I support him,” he said.
Mutua also predicted that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would back President Ruto politically.
“I think that is why ODM will support him,” he said.
He concluded by praising the President’s work ethic, saying, “I have never seen a president who works as hard.”
The remarks mark a significant shift from Mutua’s previous criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration and underscore the changing political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
