NAIROBI, Kenya- A vehicle burst into flames after veering off Mbagathi Road and crashing into a pedestrian footbridge in Nairobi early Saturday, with police launching investigations into the cause of the accident.
The crash occurred at about 6:00 a.m. near the Riara University turn-off along Mbagathi Road, according to police.
Witnesses said the vehicle lost control before leaving the roadway, hitting the footbridge and catching fire moments after the impact.
Police said the vehicle was carrying three occupants at the time of the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze as officers secured the area.
All three occupants were burnt beyond recognition.
The wreckage was later removed from the scene to allow for further investigations and to restore normal traffic flow along the busy road.
The incident adds to a series of road crashes involving vehicles catching fire after impact on Nairobi roads in recent months, prompting renewed calls for motorists to observe speed limits and exercise caution, particularly during the early morning hours.
