NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Railways has issued a public warning over an increase in fraudulent websites, fake social media pages and individuals impersonating the corporation to scam unsuspecting passengers seeking to book Madaraka Express train tickets.
In a statement, the state corporation said the fraudsters are posing as Kenya Railways on various online platforms and directing customers to make payments through unauthorised channels, leading to financial losses.
The corporation cautioned passengers to remain vigilant and verify all booking platforms before making any payments.
“Kenya Railways wishes to notify members of the public that fraudulent websites, social media pages and individuals are impersonating the Corporation and deceiving customers into making payments through fraudulent channels, resulting in financial loss,” the corporation said.
Kenya Railways urged anyone who has fallen victim to the scam to report the incident immediately through its official customer service channels to support ongoing investigations.
Victims have been advised to call 0709 907 000 or 0709 907 555, or email info@krc.co.ke with details of the incident.
The corporation also reminded passengers that Madaraka Express Passenger Service tickets should only be purchased through its official booking channels.
Customers can book tickets through the official online booking portal, the *639# USSD service or at any Madaraka Express Passenger Service station across the country.
Kenya Railways warned passengers against using unofficial booking links or dealing with individuals claiming to sell train tickets on behalf of the corporation without authorisation.
The corporation said it is working with relevant security agencies to track down those behind the fraudulent schemes and ensure they are brought to justice.
Passengers were further encouraged to report suspicious websites, social media accounts or individuals advertising train ticket sales outside the approved booking channels.
