‘He is at Home’: ODM MP Gives Update on Oburu Odinga’s Health

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has dismissed reports suggesting ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga remained hospitalised or was facing restrictions on visitors, saying the politician has already been discharged and is recuperating at home.

The MP said she personally visited Oburu last week and spent nearly an hour with him, describing the senator as being in good spirits and in stable condition.

“This information is not factual. I was with PL, Senator Oburu last week and we chatted for nearly one hour. He was in hospital but in good spirits and condition,” the Suba North MP said.

She further disputed reports that access to Oburu had been restricted during his hospital stay.

“There were no restrictions placed on visiting him. He has since been discharged and is recuperating at home. He is at home as we speak,” she said.

Her remarks come after reports circulated about Oburu’s health and possible plans for further specialised treatment abroad.

Oburu’s health attracts public attention

The ODM leader’s health has previously generated public speculation, including periods when he was away from the public eye.

Oburu underwent knee surgery at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad, India, in November 2022.

He later spoke about his recovery and said he had received good treatment.

His health also became a subject of speculation following the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in October 2025.

Oburu, who is in his eighties, remains an influential figure within ODM and continues to participate in the party’s political affairs.

The senator is now recuperating at home, according to the Suba North MP.
