Human Rights Defender Sounds Alarm Over Rising Insecurity in Mombasa

Date:

Mombasa, Kenya – Insecurity in Mombasa has reached unprecedented levels, with violent attacks, robberies, and gang activity spreading across the city, according to human rights defender Hussein Khalid.

Speaking to the press, Khalid cited a recent incident in the Central Business District (CBD), where a middle-aged man was attacked by a group of panga-wielding youth and sustained serious injuries.

“Insecurity within Mombasa is at its worst. In Mombasa, these thugs continue to operate without anyone stopping them,” Khalid said.

He warned that communities continue to suffer daily, with residents being robbed, assaulted, and in some cases killed, while police efforts appear insufficient to rein in the rising tide of violence.

“Action must be taken for security to be restored in Mombasa,” Khalid added.

The surge in criminal activity has left many residents fearful for their safety and calls for urgent government intervention to restore law and order.

Police officials in Mombasa have yet to comment on the specific incidents, but local authorities face increasing pressure to respond decisively to the security challenges affecting both residents and businesses in the city.
