Mudavadi Declares 2032 Presidential Bid, Backs Ruto for 2027

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has declared his intention to seek the presidency in the 2032 General Election while pledging to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday, August 23, Mudavadi said his immediate political priority was to support Ruto in the 2027 contest before pursuing his own presidential ambitions five years later.

Mudavadi also ruled out serving as a running mate in 2032, saying he would instead seek the country’s top office.

“2032, I’m not asking to be a running mate; 2032 is my interest for the Presidency,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary was categorical about his position on the 2027 election, saying he would support Ruto’s bid.

“2027, I have made it very categorical: I am supporting William Ruto,” he stated.

Mudavadi says Ruto support is not conditional

Mudavadi said his backing for Ruto was based on a deliberate political decision rather than an expectation of receiving a particular government position.

“My support for him is not conditional on a position. I made a deliberate choice when I chose to support him,” he said.

His remarks clarify his political positioning ahead of the 2027 General Election while simultaneously setting out a longer-term presidential ambition.

Mudavadi, who leads the Amani National Congress (ANC), is among Kenya’s veteran political figures and has previously contested the presidency.

His declaration places his 2032 ambitions on the political horizon even as political parties and leaders continue to reorganise ahead of the 2027 election.

For now, Mudavadi says his focus remains on supporting Ruto’s bid for a second term before seeking the presidency in 2032.
